Ruiny tetínského hradu možná skrývají tajemství obrů.
»Jeden muž na Tetíně kopal sklep a narazil při tom na kostru obra. Lebka byla tak veliká, že ji sotva dva mužové obsáhli. Všechny tyto kosti odnesli pak na tetínský hrad, kde je umístili v jedné síni a ukazovali hostům.«
Tato pasáž z Kroniky české od Václava Hájka z Libočan bývala označována jako typická ukázka autorových mystifi kací. Nežili u nás ale nakonec opravdu obři?
Když byl totiž na konci minulého století proveden vědecký průzkum tajemných Turských maštalí pod tetínským hradem (těsně před tím, než byla tato soustava jeskyní definitivně zničena lomem), našlo se tu mnoho kostí pravěkých zvířat, mimo jiné i mamuta. Jeho lebka svou zaobleností může připomínat lidskou a otvor po chobotu býval často chápán jako jediné veliké oko.
Odtud vznikly báje o jednookých Kyklopech. Vysvětlení zní pravděpodobně a je zřejmé, že v mnoha případech skutečně nálezy »podivuhodně velkých kostí« zavdaly příčinu k rozšíření bájí o obrech a dracích. A přesto tu zůstává cosi znepokojivého...
V jeskyni Lovelock v Nevadě našli dělníci roku 1911 při těžbě guána mumifikované pozůstatky několika velice zvláštních lidí. Šokovala je především velikost bytostí: jejich výška se prý pohybovala od 2 do 2,5 metru! Zachovaly se i zbytky dlouhých vlasů a vousů, které měly výrazně zrzavou barvu.
Zajímavé je, že v této oblasti žijící indiáni mají mnoho legend o mocných obrech. Tvrdí, že byli původními obyvateli země a že jejich pradědové, kteří sem přišli ze severu, se s nimi ještě setkávali.
Mumie dělníci zlikvidovali a zřejmě by celá příhoda byla zapoenuta, kdyby se šťastnou náhodou nezachovala alespoň jedna lebka, která je dnes uložena v Humboldtově muzeu ve Winnemuce.
Příběhů o setkáních s obry či o nálezech jejich kostí se během věků nahromadilo tolik, že je jasné, že nemůže jít o nějakou mimořádnou zrůdnou výjimku, ale o zcela samostatnou a v určité době možná běžnou lidskou rasu.
V Čechách se pověsti o nich soustřeďují do míst dávných pravěkých hradišť a svatyní (Obrova noha u Otaslavic, Obersko na Mohelnicku, Obřany v Brně, Obrovy hroby – podivné čtvercové náspy v lese nedaleko Zvíkova). Také na Plešivci v Brdech a mnohde jinde prý sídlili obři...
Jak se na Tetín dostat? Obec Tetín i bývalý hrad leží na skále nad Berounkou nad železniční trati č. 171 z Prahy do Berouna a naopak. Na Tetín můžete vyrazit buď z Berouna po modré značce a nebo ze Srbska podle Berounky po neznačené cestě vedle železniční trati směr Beroun a asi po 2 km odbočkou vlevo přes most nad tratí směr Tetín.
